Journaling Through the Valley: Finding Clarity When Life Feels Cloudy

There are seasons in life when everything feels foggy—when questions swirl, clarity feels out of reach, and your heart is searching for peace.

I’ve had those seasons.
I’ve walked through moments that challenged my faith, shook my confidence, and made me question everything I thought I knew.

And in those times, I turned to what has always grounded me: journaling.

My Lifeline: Journaling as a Spiritual Practice

I haven’t just started journaling—I’ve journaled for years.
But over time, my journaling has deepened. What started as a way to record my thoughts has evolved into a sacred space where I meet God daily.

My journal is where I process, where I question, and where I receive.
I wouldn't be where I am in my spiritual journey without it.

Some days I write scriptures.
Some days I write my fears.
And sometimes—before I even finish writing the question—God gives me the answer.

🌧️ When the Clouds Roll In

Stepping outside your comfort zone is uncomfortable—that’s literally the point.
It’s walking by faith when there’s no guarantee, trying new things, building something from nothing, and trusting God when the outcome is unclear.

Let’s be clear:

This season is no fun.

It can feel foggy, heavy, and lonely.
But it’s also where the deepest transformation happens.

Just like in nature:

Fruit doesn’t grow on mountaintops—it grows in the valley.
The valley is where seeds are planted, roots take hold, and growth happens underground—before anything is visible above the surface.
The deeper the root, the greater the fruit.

That’s what journaling helps me see:
Even when it feels like nothing is happening, God is working below the surface.

And I can say with full confidence—my greatest blessings have come after these very seasons.

• It was in the valley that I learned about supernatural healing—and experienced it for myself.
• It was after my greatest financial challenges that I received some of my greatest financial blessings.

These valleys weren’t the end.
They were the preparation for more than I could imagine.

Why Journaling Brings Clarity

Journaling helps me see what I really believe—and where I need to increase my faith and go deeper in my understanding of God's Word and His promises.

It’s not just about writing down your thoughts, feelings, and questions to God.
It’s also about listening.
I often write what I hear Him saying to me in response.

That’s how journaling becomes more than just a record—it becomes revelation.

Final Thoughts

I may not always know what the next step looks like. But I’ve learned this:

Clarity doesn’t come first.
Obedience comes first—and clarity follows.

And journaling has helped me see that again and again.

So if life ever feels cloudy—don’t run from the discomfort.
Grab a pen.
Sit with God.
And write your way through the valley.
